Southern Charm Editorial | Boone Hall in Charleston, SC

A couple of months ago I designed and planned a styled shoot in Charleston, South Carolina, at Boone Hall, and it passed even my wildest expectations! I don’t think I have ever designed something that felt more like me, and it had to be one of my top five favorite moments from this year. It was even recently featured in Southern Bride Magazine, and you can see it here!

I’ve long been inspired by timeless designs, true Southern touches, and the historically beautiful settings of the Lowcountry. When I don’t have an actual couple to work with, I still craft an idea of who they are. In this case, I was inspired by the idea of creating timeless designs with unique elements that stay true to a romantic & ethereal overall design aesthetic. I found that I could best express this with a Southern-themed editorial. I have always loved southern weddings because not only are they influenced by their surrounding location but also by their family traditions which I think makes each event unique in its way.

Boone Hall Wedding Ceremony in Charleston, SC - Editorial

When it came to choosing a venue, I knew instantly that Boone Hall would be the ideal choice for this shoot. Not only is it the location where part of the Notebook was shot, but the venue’s overhanging Spanish moss trees, historical background, and large mansion make it the perfect backdrop for any Southern couple. For the ceremony, I wanted the focus to be on the venue’s natural beauty and so instead of an arch as the focal point, we positioned the couple so they were framed by the trees and then anchored the setup with lush flowers at the top of the aisle. The bride’s wedding dress was the perfect mix of classic and chic, and befitting of the timeless style woven throughout.

Boone Hall Wedding Reception in Charleston, SC - - Editorial

When designing the tablescape I wanted to create something that was inspired by the venue and also that felt totally romantic. Each place setting had a wood charger (as a nod to the old trees on the property), classic white china, and a clear salad plate with vintage-style gold silverware. Since Charleston is known for its oysters, I wanted to incorporate their shells into the setup. So they were gilded with gold leaf and used instead of traditional place cards at each seat. Starting with the invitation and continuing through the flowers on the reception, shades of mauve added a soft pop of color.

If you loved this wedding you will definitely want to check out this recent event we planned to get more mauve & southern inspiration HERE!
