I have been excited to share this shoot with ya’ll for awhile now, and I am ecstatic that I finally got a few moments to put together this post for you to see a little of what I have been up to the past few months!
A couple of months ago I designed and planned a styled shoot in Charleston South Carolina at Boone Hall Plantation, and it passed even my wildest expectations! I don’t think I have ever designed something that felt more like me, and it had to be one of my top five favorite moments from this year. It was even recently featured on Grey Likes Weddings, and you can see it here!
I have been inspired lately by the idea of creating timeless designs with unique elements that stay true to a romantic & ethereal overall design aesthetic. I found that I could best express this with a Southern-themed styled shoot. I have always loved southern weddings because not only are they influenced by their surrounding location but also by their family traditions which I think makes each event unique in its way.
Boone Hall Plantation Wedding in Charleston, SC - Ceremony
When it came to choosing a venue, I knew instantly that Boone Hall Plantation would be the ideal choice for this shoot. Not only is it the location where part of the Notebook was shoot (YES YOU HEARD ME RIGHT!?!), but the venue’s overhanging Spanish moss trees, historical background, and large mansion make it the perfect backdrop for any Southern bride. For the ceremony portion of the shoot, I wanted to focus on the natural beauty of the venue and decided to forgo an archway and allow the overhanging Spanish moss trees to be the focus at the altar, while organic, lush and mauve florals ordained the back of the ceremony. The bride’s Jennifer Black bridal gown was the perfect mix of classic and chic, and was the perfect timeless touch to the shoot I was looking for.
Boone Hall Plantation Wedding in Charleston, SC - Reception
When designing the tablescape I wanted to create a design that was not only inspired by Southern Romance but the location as well. Each place setting had a wood charger (which was inspired by the Spanish Moss trees at the venue), classic white china & a clear salad plate with vintage gold silverware. I wanted to incorporate oysters into the design, which the city is famous for, so each guest would find their name at the gold leaf oysters at their place setting. The mauve, blush, and dusty rose color scheme added the perfect soft and romantic touch to the shoot and can be seen through the lush florals, napkins, and even the velvet table linen.
But enough describing it and talking! You are just going to have to see for yourself. Hope you enjoyed looking at the post as much as we loved creating it!-Shannon
